Testostorone stimulates the growth of the prostrate. Long-term testostorone treatment could cause enlargement of the prostrate gland. Also, doctors are concerned that testostorone therapy might fuel the growth of prostrate cancer that is already present. This is especially worrisome since prostrate cancer is common in older men, and many men have prostrate cancer that isn't diagnosed.
