Elderly persons with chronic pain often have a variety of medical problems and many possible sources of the pain. Diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain are more difficult in elderly persons than in younger persons. Chronic pain is characterized by a long duration beyond the expected time for healing. The cause is often chronic and disease related.
