Bypoler vs Alcahol

I need to know with someone with out being diagnosed with and being treeted for bypoler the use of alcohol. I understand it might be a self medication for ones with this disorder. My question is if one who has been treeted for ansyity panic atacts and depreshion starts going through a manic fase. Can the consumtion of alcaholl put someone into a psycotic stage?
